There are better ways to prevent infections

Meet UV222™

The future of infection prevention in shared spaces

What is Far UV-C?

Simple yet intuitive

UV222™ is a highly effective solution for reducing harmful air and surface pathogens, and is safe for use in busy shared spaces like hospitals, school classrooms, offices, restaurants and gyms.

UV222™ can be wall or ceiling mounted and emits 222nm Far UV-C light. A built-in Ushio Care222 filtered lamp module ensures only safe wavelengths of light are shone into the air and onto surfaces.

Motion sensors and LIDAR allow UV222™ to measure distance to surfaces and vary UV-C dosage according to room occupancy, operating at all times within ACGIH Threshold Limit Values (TLV).

Safety built-in

UV222™ is available in two different angle configurations – 60° and 100° – the 60° offers more focused Far UV-C light distribution, 100° creates a broader footprint and a larger coverage area.

UV222™ ensures human exposure to harmful wavelengths is eliminated through a patented optical band-pass filter. UV222™ is safer than Far UV-C units which use krypton-chloride excimer lamps.

UV222™ carries a 2 year/17,500 hour warranty and has zero ongoing maintenance costs. It can be either hard wired or supplied with a standard U.S plug fitting and consumes just 17 watts of electricity – 10 times less than many air purifiers – meaning low lifecycle costs.

Bespoke installation and design

Each UV222™ installation is designed from building floorpans to ensure that every open space and surface is best protected with lamps deployed in the most important parts of a room.

UV222™ lamps can be programmed to be active during busy periods or disabled when buildings are vacant, such as schools during the holidays, or restaurants and bars overnight.

The UV222™ IoT management app allows users to access real time UV-C cleaning data, remotely adjust settings for each lamp and warns when lamps are nearing the end of their lifecycle.

Faster pathogen elimination

UV222™ is capable of destroying over 90% of upper aerosolised SARS-CoV-2 in in just 26 seconds, surfaces are treated to the same reduction level in just a few minutes.

222nm Far UV-C light has been proven in studies around the world to reduce surface and air infection risk in seconds and be safe for human exposure in doses up to 500mJ/cm2.

UV222™ is not just a solution for the pandemic. It will also help eradicate bacteria such as MRSA and C-Diff, mold and yeast, and help incapacitate Influenza and the Common Cold.

What is Far UV-C?

What is Far UV-C?

UV light is broadly classed into three types: UV-A, UV-B and UV-C. Since it has the highest energy, UV-C is the most dangerous type of ultraviolet light to humans.

UV-C, known as “germicidal” UV, neutralise pathogens such as viruses by attacking their DNA and preventing them from replicating, however 254nm UV-C can’t be used in occupied spaces.

Far-UVC has a shorter wavelength of 222 nm and higher energy, meaning it can neutralise viruses more effectively. It’s wavelength is absorbed by dead layers of cells and is harmless to humans.

How safe is 222nm UV-C light?

Unlike traditional 254nm UVC light which can cause cataracts leading to blurry vision, 222nm Far UVC light does not penetrate the Cornea, the outer layer of the eye

254 nm UVC light penetrates deep into the skin and can cause cancer. 222nm Far UVC light however does not penetrate the epidermis and is safe to be exposed to

The Evidence

The evidence behind Far UV-C

Buonanno, Welch, Shuryak & Brenner (2020)

This study looked at how effectively 222nm Far UV-C light inactivated the Human Coronavirus in the air. It found 222nm Far UV-C light reduced airborne SARS-CoV-2 by 99.9% in under 25 minutes at a dose of just 3mJ/cm2/hour

Kitagawa, Nomura, Nazmul & Omori (2021)

This study looked at how effectively 222nm Far UV-C light inactivated the Human Coronavirus on surfaces. It found that a 30 second 3mJ/cm2 dose of 222nm Far UV-C light on a surface led to a 99.7% reduction in SARS-CoV-2

Fukui, Niikura, Oda, Kumabe & Ohashi (2020)

This study looked the safety and bacterial effect of 222nm Far UV-C light in humans. It found that 222-nm UVC at 500 mJ/cm2 was a safe irradiation dose with bactericidal effects contributing to the prevention of perioperative infection
